The European Commission said on Monday that, following talks with consumer protection authorities, messaging service WhatsApp agreed to become "more transparent on changes to its terms of service."
The Meta-owned app also agreed to allow users to reject updates in case they do not agree with them and to inform them when such a rejection would lead to them no longer being able to use the app. WhatsApp also assured the regulators that it is not sharing users' personal data with other Meta-owned companies, such as Facebook.
"I welcome WhatsApp's commitments to changing its practices to comply with EU rules, actively informing users of any changes to their contract, and respecting their choices instead of asking them each time they open the app," European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders stated.
