United States President-elect Joe Biden's pick for Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, stated before the Senate he would need to study the case of the country's border with Mexico before forming an opinion if the further physical barrier was needed.
Mayorkas declined to respond if he would remove or dismantle the wall on the border between the US and Mexico, saying once again he would need to look more into the matter.
Mayorkas stressed the immigrants were leaving their countries and coming to the US because of "extraordinary violence, corruption, extreme poverty and persecution." He added President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris had outlined a "bold plan" that would address the "roots" of the issue of immigration.
