Wisconsin Governor Evers says he will not run again

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers announced on Thursday that he will not seek re-election for his position in 2026.

"Here's the truth: Wisconsin, the only thing I love more than being your governor is being a husband, a dad, and a grandpa," the Democrat said in a video shared on social media. "I spent 50 years in public service. I'm damn proud I devoted my entire career — and most of my life — to working for you."

Evers was first elected the governor of Wisconsin in 2018 and again in 2022. Recently, he has been involved in a disagreement with United States President Donald Trump over the latter's immigration policy. The tensions rose after Evers advised state employees in Wisconsin to consult legal counsel before cooperating with Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) agents and culminated in White House Border Czar Tom Homan threatening to arrest Evers.
