Xi calls for 'mutual respect' between China and US

Chinese President Xi Jinping revealed that Beijing is prepared to work with the United States on condition of "mutual respect," according to a letter sent to the National Committee on US-China relations, obtained by CNBC.

"Both countries will gain from cooperation and lose from confrontation," said Xi. "Cooperation is the only right choice."

The news comes ahead of US President Joe Biden's virtual meeting with the Chinese leader.
