Chinese President Xi Jinping is planning to visit Russia this spring, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday citing sources familiar with the matter.

According to the sources, the organization of Xi's trip is still at an early stage and the exact timing of the visit is still unknown, but is likely to be in April or May.

The report comes amid Chinese Central Foreign Affairs Commission Office Director Wang Yi's visit to Moscow, where he met Russian Security Council (SBRF) Secretary Nikolay Patrushev and is set to meet the country's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov later this week. Putin and Xi last held talks over a video link in late December.
