Chinese President Xi Jinping extended on Friday his congratulations to Iran on its impending membership with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
Speaking at his meeting with Iran's head of state Ebrahim Raisi at the organization's ongoing summit, Xi said that Beijing is looking forward to cooperating with Tehran as a member of the SCO. He also underscored China's support for Iran's efforts to safeguard its "sovereignty and national dignity" and maintain its stance of not having other countries interfere in its internal policies.
On the first day of the summit, Raisi had a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who remarked that the cooperation deal between their two countries is "in its final stage."
