United Kingdom's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) announced on Wednesday it would be investigating the acquisition of North West Electricity Networks Limited (NWEN) by Iberdrola S.A.
The UK watchdog wants to see whether this merger could potentially hurt the competition in the energy market and whether it would make it harder for the UK's Ofgem (The Office of Gas and Electricity Markets) to monitor the pricing.
For these reasons, the CMA invited all interested parties to leave comments until February 12, while the deadline for the phase 1 decision is set for March 27. Back in August 2024, Iberdrola announced the agreement, valued at €5 billion, including debt. The transaction was finalized in October of the same year.
