The South Korean Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) said on Friday that it will ask for acting South Korean President Choi Sang-mok's involvement in the effort to arrest impeached President Yoon Suk-yeol. Earlier today, police attempted to arrest Yoon at his residence but were prevented from reaching him by his security team.
"Under the current circumstances, the execution of the warrant is practically impossible," the CIO said, adding it will "strongly demand" that Choi instruct Yoon's security service to comply with the warrant. Meanwhile, the presidential security team said it will pursue legal action against the CIO, alleging the office had "no legal grounds" to enter Yoon's residence.
