South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol told the Associated Press in an interview posted on Monday that the international community needs to show strong resolve to deter North Korea's nuclear threats.
"Peace is never as certain and reliable as when it is backed by powerful forces and deterrence. Strong international sanctions against North Korea have the effect of preventing the advancement of its nuclear and missile capabilities," Yoon insisted.
The head of state commented that during the NATO summit, he plans to stress how important cooperation against "North Korea's illegal acts" is. He added that a new NATO-South Korean document, which encompasses non-proliferation and cybersecurity, will also take effect at the summit.
