South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol said on Thursday that his country will be a "key partner" in restoring global supply chains. "We will align and cooperate with mutually trusted countries in full compliance with universal rules in order to secure the global supply chain stability," he told the World Economic Forum.
"If possible, the semiconductor technologies that South Korea has should be produced by and in many countries," Yoon said, adding that South Korea intends to take part in projects and initiatives to provide a steady chip supply. He said that it "might not be possible to avoid bloc-forming" among countries due to the importance of semiconductors in new technologies, but that Seoul will strive to contribute to the further global industrial development.
