Russian Foreign Ministry's Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday that United States Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin's comments regarding the direct conflict between Russia and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) are "insane."

"Is this a direct threat to Russia or an attempt to come up with an excuse for [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelensky? Both are insane. But now everyone can see who the aggressor is - it's Washington," Zakharova wrote on her Telegram channel.

Previously, Austin stated that if Ukraine loses the war against Russia, NATO will have to enter into direct conflict with Russia.
