Yuri Chernichuk, the Russian-installed head of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (ZNPP), denied Ukrainian officials' reports of diesel reservoir damage in recent strikes around the facility.
"The information disseminated by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry about damage to fuel tanks is false. The station is in a safe condition," Chernichuk posted on Telegram. His response came after Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhii Tykhyi shared that the spilled fuel could have powered the station's emergency generators for 25 days.
Moscow previously rejected any transfer of Europe's largest nuclear power plant to Kiev under the US-brokered agreement, claiming it falls under Russian jurisdiction. International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi stated today that the ZNPP may begin operating one reactor within months of a ceasefire.
