Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that he arrived in Rome on Saturday to meet with his Italian counterpart Sergio Mattarella, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni as well as Pope Francis.
He emphasized that the visit is important in relation to the "approaching victory of Ukraine" against Russia.
Saturday's meeting between Zelensky and Pope Francis is of significance as it marks the first encounter between the two since Russia launched its military operation in Ukraine in February of last year.
