Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed Germany's decision to provide an additional €3 billion for Ukraine's defense needs in 2025, with nearly €8.25 billion allocated for 2026–2029. Using X on Friday, Zelensky said the new funding will cover essential military equipment, including "air defense, artillery, drones, armored vehicles, and demining" tools.
Zelensky emphasized that Germany's support, which will involve contracts with the German defense industry, strengthens Ukraine’s long-term security after the war. He thanked Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Friedrich Merz for their leadership, recognizing their contribution to Ukraine's defense.
Earlier, the Bundestag's Budget Committee approved the package, which adds to €4 billion already planned in the 2025 military aid budget. Zelensky expressed his gratitude for Germany's continued support.
