Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky promised his United States counterpart Donald Trump he would replace his country's ambassador to the US, Oksana Markarova (pictured), who faced criticism from some of the US president's congressional allies, the Financial Times reported on Monday, citing sources.

Trump and Zelensky discussed the matter during their phone call on Friday. Ukraine's president is said to seek to restore relations with the US after Washington ended deliveries of certain crucial weapons systems to Kiev. Markarova's potential replacement is a part of Zelensky's major war cabinet reshuffle planned for next week, sources familiar with the plan said.

Certain circles close to the US president previously accused Markarova of ties with the Democrats.
