Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed the necessity for Ukraine to strive toward a diplomatic resolution to the conflict by 2025, during an interview with Ukrainian Radio Suspilne on Saturday.
"No one wants peace like we do," Zelensky said. "On our part, we must do everything to ensure that the war ends next year through diplomatic means. The end of this war is very important to us, a just peace - and not to feel that we lost the best because of an injustice imposed on you."
"I don't think Putin wants peace at all. But this does not mean that he does not want to sit down with one of the leaders to negotiate," the president emphasized while cautioning against the United States adopting a neutral stance as a mediator, stressing that: "America must maintain the position that Russia is an aggressor, that it has violated our territorial integrity and international law."
