Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told reporters on Saturday that the United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin would visit Kiev on Sunday. This would be the first time senior US officials have visited the country's capital since the beginning of the war.
During a press conference, the Ukrainian president also commented on the peace talks with Russia. "I have insisted since the very beginning to have negotiations with the leader of the Russian Federation because I consider that [any meetings through mediators] will not give the desired effect," said Zelensky.
However, he also noted the difficulties of the process, including "symptoms consistent with poisoning" in some of the envoys. "I don't have the right to be afraid because our people have shown that they are not afraid of anything," added Zelensky.
