Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban (pictured left) told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (right) that a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia could help accelerate peace negotiations, according to Interfax Ukraine. "I told Zelensky that these initiatives take a lot of time. And precisely because of the rules of international diplomacy, they are very complicated. I asked Zelensky to think about whether it is possible to cease fire first, and then conduct peace negotiations," Orban said.
The Hungarian leader also said his government is interested in signing a bilateral cooperation agreement with Ukraine. Orban arrived in Kiev on an unannounced visit earlier today, his first since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war. As Hungary took over the presidency of the European Council on Monday for the next six months, Orban said his country's goal will be to "help solve the problems facing the European Union."
