Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky clarified on Wednesday that foreign troops were needed "first of all for monitoring," stressing that "no one wants to drag other countries into war."
In a joint presser with French President Emmanuel Macron, Zelensky voiced hope that the United States has enough power to "press Russia" into an unconditional ceasefire, adding that he expects Washington to ensure the truce holds without concessions despite Moscow's intentions. The leader said Kiev and Washington discussed stopping attacks on civilian infrastructure, but the proposal "did not receive support from Russia."
He also called for sanctions on Moscow to remain and said he expects "powerful decisions" from Thursday’s summit in Paris after thanking Macron for the €2 billion-strong fresh round of military aid.
