Iran is "vigorously continuing with its legitimate nuclear program" and will not renegotiate its nuclear agreement with world powers, the country's Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi (pictured) said on Sunday, IRNA reported.
Speaking at a news conference in Tehran, the official said Iran's nuclear talks with the United States are over, adding that the agreement will not be reopened, even if the US imposes new sanctions on the country. It is quite likely that the US Congress will indeed opt for such measures, but Iran will not allow the incoming administration to abandon the deal, Araqchi insisted.
Iran's nuclear agreement with the US was designed to curb its nuclear program and lift sanctions against the country in exchange. However, President-elect Donald Trump has threatened to scrap the deal altogether or try to negotiate a better one.
