Julian Assange is getting his Ecuador asylum taken away, Russian media reported on Friday citing sources close to the Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry and the president's office. Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno reportedly reached an agreement during talks with the United Kingdom to hand Assange over to the British authorities in the next few weeks.
The Wikileaks founder has lived in the Ecuadorian embassy in London since 2012 after he avoided being extradited to Sweden over sexual assault allegations. Assange also faces charges of espionage in the United States for leaking sensitive documents. Recently, however, Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry was involved in a series of talks with the British government and the new Foreign Minister Jose Valencia stated last month that the asylum granted to Assange "cannot last forever."
The current president of Ecuador, Lenin Moreno previously described Assange as an "inherited problem" and a "stone in the shoe."
