Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese (pictured) expressed on Tuesday that the government desires to see WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange return to his country. "We want him brought home to Australia," he said as he spoke in front of the parliament.
Albanese stated that Assange's legal battle for publishing classified US documents "has dragged on for too long, [and] there is nothing to be gained by his continued incarceration." "I will have more to say when these legal proceedings have concluded, which I hope will be very soon and I will report as appropriate at that time,” he added. His comments come after Assange left the United Kingdom following his guilty plea.
AFP reported that the plane carrying Assange stopped in Bangkok for refueling before continuing its flight to the Northern Mariana Islands, a US territory in the Pacific.
