Australia's Prime Minister Anthony Albanese spoke on the phone with United States President Donald Trump and stated that the latter leader agreed to consider exempting Australia from tariffs on steel and aluminum he announced on Sunday.
"We committed to working constructively together to advance Australian and American interests, drive economic prosperity and face shared challenges," Albanese wrote on X. He previously said that he hoped Trump would exempt Australia from the new tariffs.
He further revealed Trump "agreed that an exemption was under consideration in the interests of both of our countries."
