The Bank of Japan (BoJ) decided on Thursday to keep its benchmark interest rate steady at 0.25%, in a widely anticipated move.

The central bank said in its quarterly outlook report that it "needs to pay due attention to the future course of overseas ecnomies, particularly the US economy, and developments in financial and capital markets," adding that Japan's economy has "recovered moderately, although some weakness has been seen in part."

The BoJ predicted inflation would remain near its 2% inflation target in the coming years.
