Barclays CEO Jes Staley resigns over Epstein links

EPA-EFE/FACUNDO ARRIZABALAGA

Barclays Chief Executive Jes Staley has decided to resign from his post following the investigation that connected him to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

"In view of those conclusions, and Mr. Staley's intention to contest them, the board and Mr. Staley have agreed that he will step down from his role as group chief executive and as a director of Barclays," the British bank noted in a statement released on Monday.

The investigation, started by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) two years ago, led to preliminary conclusions that Staley and Epstein had some kind of relationship, however, it didn't prove that Staley was aware of Epstein's alleged crimes.
