United States Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is set to hold weekly discussions at the White House with top congressional Republicans about strategies to advance US President Donald Trump's tax agenda, Politico reported on Monday, citing a person familiar with the private deliberations.
According to the report, the meeting attendees will include Senate Majority Leader John Thune and House Speaker Mike Johnson, as well as the chairs of the two tax-writing congressional committees, Representative Jason Smith from the House Committee on Ways and Means and Senator Mike Crapo from the Senate Committee on Finance. The discussions are reportedly expected to start this week.
The US House Budget Committee's draft for the congressional budget for fiscal 2025 allowed $4.5 trillion in tax cuts for the US House Committee on Ways and Means, which Senate Republicans stated was insufficient for the tax agenda to be followed.
