United States President Joe Biden confirmed on Tuesday that Israel and Hezbollah agreed to a ceasefire deal previously presented by the US and thanked France's President Emmanuel Macron for his efforts to reach an agreement.
"Since the war with Hezbollah began over 70,000 Israelis have been forced to live as refugees in their countries and over 300,000 Lebanese people have also been forced to live as refugees in their own country," Biden said, emphasizing that neither Israel nor Lebanese people have started this war. He revealed that the ceasefire will take effect on Wednesday at 4 am local time. "What is left of Hezbollah and other terrorist organizations will not be allowed to threaten the security of Israel again," insisting that "this is designed to be a permanent cessation of hostilities" between Israel and Iran-backed group.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said that the security cabinet approved the deal with 10 votes in favor and one against, and praised "the US contribution to the process."
