United States President Joe Biden (pictured left) and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (pictured right) discussed Israel's Rafah operation and the urgent need for humanitarian aid in Gaza in their latest phone call on Monday, according to a White House readout.
"President Biden spoke with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel to discuss the latest developments in Israel and Gaza, including the situation in Rafah and efforts to surge humanitarian assistance to Gaza," the White House added. The call is the first contact the leaders have had since February 15.
Just last week, Chuck Schumer, the Majority Leader of the US Senate, advocated for early elections in Israel to replace Netanyahu, citing him as "an obstacle to peace." The responses from Biden and Netanyahu differed significantly, with the former deeming it "good" while the latter deemed it "totally inappropriate."
