Blast heard in Donetsk - report

EPA-EFE/DAVE MUSTAINE

A strong explosion was heard in the center of Donetsk, the capital and the largest city of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), RIA Novosti reported on Friday.

The blast reportedly took place "several dozen meters" away from the territory's government building. Denis Sinenkov, the region's militia leader, told Interfax that his car was blown up "in the parking lot" and that "no one was hurt."

The mass evacuation of civilians from the region to Russia has begun just moments before the explosion. Authorities of the self-proclaimed DPR and Lugansk People's Republic on one side, and the Ukrainian government in Kiev on the other, have, over the past few days, accused each other of taking military action that broke the ceasefire agreements between them.
