United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken pointed out on Thursday he is "confident" the Israel-Hamas ceasefire will start Sunday despite Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delaying a Cabinet vote on the deal.
"I am confident, and I fully expect that implementation will begin, as we said, on Sunday," he added. "It's not exactly surprising that in a process, in a negotiation, that has been this challenging and this fraught, you may get a loose end. We're tying up that loose end as we speak."
Israel said it had delayed holding Thursday's cabinet meeting to Friday to ratify a ceasefire with Hamas, blaming the militant group for the hold-up.
