United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken claimed on Friday that "many" of Russia's recent strikes on Ukrainian cities were conducted using Iranian drones.
"In recent days, we witnessed Moscow's widespread strikes on civilian infrastructure in Ukraine. Many carried out using drones supplied by Iran," Blinken stated during a joint press conference with French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna. He also asserted that the fact that Russian President Vladimir Putin imposed martial law in the four regions that voted to join Russia in referendums unrecognized by most of the global community shows that the people in those areas do not want their regions to be a part of Russia.
Reflecting on Iran, the US top diplomat slammed Tehran for its "brutal repression" of protestors and stated that reviving the Iran nuclear deal from 2015 is not "imminent" because Iran "continues to inject extraneous issues." Still, he insisted Washington still sees diplomacy as the "best way forward" in ensuring Tehran never acquires nuclear arms.
