Bombardier Aviation has made a decision to cut its workforce by some 2,500 employees in response to the crisis caused by the coronavirus, the company announced on Friday.

The company’s statement said that the measures are necessary as Bombardier "must adjust its operations and workforce to ensure that it emerges from the current crisis on solid footing" and that the "majority of these reductions will impact manufacturing operations in Canada."

The measures are to be implemented throughout the remainder of the year. Bombardier currently has approximately 60,000 employees.
