European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell told, in a statement before the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) meeting, on Thursday that the new package of sanctions against Russia could be approved "this afternoon, or tomorrow at the latest."

"Today, as I expect, the fifth package of sanctions will be finally approved first by the permanent representatives, and then by the council of foreign ministers in a written procedure," shared Borrell. Meanwhile, Kiev previously asserted that it will be continuing to pressure its allies to introduce an energy embargo on Russia.
