European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said on Monday that the situation in Ukraine is "getting worse" and that the Ukrainians are "resisting, but they need more support."
"In Ukraine, the grain export has become a problem again," Borrell told reporters ahead of the Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Luxembourg. He also stated that the EU officials will discuss unblocking the European Peace Facility payments during the council meeting. "We have to end with the cycle 'they destroy, we repair.' We have to avoid destruction," Borrell claimed.
Last week, Ukraine accused Russia of striking three Ukrainian ships carrying grain in the Black Sea with its missiles. This wasn't the first instance of Russia being accused of targeting vessels carrying grain cargo, as Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky said in September that Russia hit "an ordinary civilian vessel" which was said to be carrying wheat to Egypt.
