David Cameron said on Friday he is stepping down from the position of prime minister. He stated the country needs new leadership and that the country's new leader will be in place by the start of the Conservative Party conference in October.

Cameron added he is very proud that he was the prime minister of the United Kingdom, but that it is not right for him to stay at the position now when the British people have chosen a different path to the one that he promoted.

He also said that renegotiating U.K.’s position in Europe requires “strong, determined and committed leadership”.
