The Florida House of Representatives voted on Thursday in favor of a bill banning most abortions after six weeks following conception.

The bill, which was passed with a 70 to 40 vote, will now be sent to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is expected to sign it into law soon. The law would make abortion past the six-week mark punishable by up to five years in prison, but includes exceptions in cases of rape and incest up to 15 weeks.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre condemned the move, claiming the ban "would strip away women’s rights in Florida and imperil access to abortion across the entire South." She added that US President Joe Biden will continue to fight against such legislation.
