Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning underlined on Friday at a press briefing that the United States shouldn't be restricting the country's "legitimate development rights in the name of competition."
The spokesperson reiterated that the relations between the two countries shouldn't be seen as a "zero-sum game," nor should competition be the word used to define them.
She went on to say that Beijing opposes Washington "attacking and smearing" China's name.
