Armenia and Azerbaijan reported new border clashes overnight on Monday, in which both of the ex-Soviet adversaries lost their servicemen.
The Armenian Defense Ministry and Azerbaijan's defense ministry in separate statements said the latest outbreak of fighting left some of their troops dead. Both sides have accused the other of initiating provocations, with Yerevan claiming that Baku launched an "intensive bombardment, with artillery and large-caliber firearms, against Armenian military positions."
The two countries agreed to a ceasefire in November 2020 to end the clashes that started in September that year over the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh. However, many shootings along the border have been reported since.
