The United States Department of Justice reaffirmed its proposal forcing Alphabet Inc.'s Google to sell its Chrome web browser after a ruling determined the company violated US antitrust law with its search business.
The final remedies are to be decided by US District Court Judge Amit Mehta in April. The DoJ filing reiterates that "Google must divest the Chrome browser, an important search access point, to provide an opportunity for a new rival to operate a significant gateway to search the internet, free of Google's monopoly control."
Additionally, the government dropped its demand that Google sell off its stakes in several AI start-ups. Earlier this week, Google asked the DoJ to reconsider its efforts to break up the company.
