Major stock market indexes in the United States closed lower on Tuesday amid a momentary decline in the technology sector potentially linked to the report that the United States could limit the sales of Nvidia Corporation's advanced semiconductors to other countries. Additionally, UnitedHealth Group Inc. posted disappointing third-quarter earnings results.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 0.75% or 324 points as UnitedHealth plunged by 8.11%. The Nasdaq 100 slid by 1.37% or 279 points, with ASML Holding NV nosediving by 16.26%. The S&P 500 decreased by 0.76% as KLA Corporation plummeted by 14.70%.
The euro lost 0.20% to the dollar at 4:02 pm ET to sell for $1.08874.
