Head of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) Denis Pushilin stated on Monday that the forces of the separatist republic have taken control of the port in Mariupol, in southeastern Ukraine. The city has been under siege by Russian forces for the last 47 days.
Ukrainian forces in Mariupol warned they are running out of ammunition and that "today will probably be the last battle," as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed the city "has been destroyed" and "tens of thousands" of its inhabitants killed. Meanwhile, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi said that the defense of Mariupol continues and that the connection between forces in the city and the rest of the Ukrainian military is "stable and maintained."
