Four pharmaceutical companies, McKesson Corp., Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., AmerisourceBergen Corp. and Cardinal Health Inc. reached a settlement on Monday in order to avoid a trial.
According to persons familiar with the situation, the details of the settlement should be released later in the day. Wall Street Journal reported that all four companies were held responsible for the opioid crisis. Fifth defendant Walgreens Boots Alliance wasn't included in this deal and it's still not known if the trial will proceed with only one appellant.
The so-called Ohio trial is very closely monitored as there were plenty of other pharmaceutical companies that were sued for pushing opioid painkillers for wider usage without warning of the risk of addiction.
