Ecuadorian presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio (pictured) was killed during a campaign event in Quito on Wednesday, his family announced, according to local media.
The Ecuadorian national assembly member was reportedly shot three times by an armed assailant while entering a car after leaving his rally. The suspect involved in the attack was also reportedly killed in an exchange of gunfire with security personnel.
Ecuador's President Guillermo Lasso denounced the incident and said he was "outraged" by the news, BBC reported.
