Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a phone call with his American counterpart Donald Trump to discuss bilateral relations, Turkey's Directorate of Communications said in a statement on Sunday. Erdogan voiced his hope that Turkey and the US will boost cooperation "in the new era with solidarity, a results-oriented approach, and sincerity."

Furthermore, the two leaders discussed global issues, including the Ukraine crisis and developments in Syria. Erdogan emphasized that Turkey "supports President Trump's decisive and direct initiatives to end the war between Russia and Ukraine."

Additionally, the Turkish head of state said that the two countries should contribute "to the lifting of sanctions on Syria to restore stability, make the new administration functional, and support normalization."
