The European Union decided to postpone the implementation of its countermeasures against US tariffs, which were set to take effect on April 15, for 90 days, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced in a post on X.

Von der Leyen said that the bloc will now engage in talks with the US President Donald Trump's administration in an attempt to reach a trade deal. "If negotiations are not satisfactory, our countermeasures will kick in," she pointed out. The official insisted that the EU will continue to plan further ways to respond to US tariffs if negotiations fail. "As I have said before, all options remain on the table," she concluded.

The EU's decision comes after Trump approved a three-month pause in the implementation of tariffs for all nations that have not retaliated.
