The European Union announced on Monday it imposed new sanctions against Iran over alleged human rights violations in the country.
The new measures target 11 individuals and four entities, including Iran's Morality Police and Law Enforcement Forces. The EU noted in the Official Journal of the European Union that the latest sanctions were introduced in response to Tehran's "widespread and disproportionate use of force" against "nonviolent protestors," as well as Iran's decision to "severely restrict internet access and block instant messaging platforms."
The bloc added that those responsible for the death of Mahsa Amini, which caused the eruption of protests across the country, "must be held accountable."
