Eurozone consumer confidence worsens in January

The consumer confidence in the euro area (EA20) stood at negative 16.1 percentage points in January, worsening by 1.0 percentage points from the figure recorded in the previous month, the European Commission revealed in its preliminary report published on Tuesday.

For the entire European Union (EU27), the indicator fell by 0.2 percentage points to negative 16.2.

"Consumer confidence is scoring well below long-term average," the commission said in the report.
