EU's Borrell: US does nothing to lower death toll in Gaza

High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said on Monday that the United States, being the strongest supporter of Israel, has been saying in recent days that the number of civilians killed by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip is "unbearable," but stressed that Washington did not take any concrete steps to lower the death toll in Gaza.

"My question is, apart from words, what else do you think it has to be done? If you believe that the toll of death is too high, do you have any possibility to make it lower," Borrell said in a press briefing before the informal meeting of EU Development ministers, implying that the US is in a position to put pressure on the Israeli authorities, since Washington provide them with weapons, while the EU does not.

Furthermore, the EU's top diplomat said that the block is very concerned over the ongoing Israeli attacks on Rafah where 1.6 million people are sheltering.
