The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said Sunday that agents are investigating "what appears to be an attempted assassination on former President Trump" following a shooting incident that took place near Trump's golf club in West Palm Beach, the Associated Press reported.
Meanwhile, Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said the gunman had an AK-style rifle with a scope, two backpacks which he hung on a fence and a GoPro camera. The shooter was some "400 to 500 yards" (about 365 to 457 meters) away from Trump, hidden by shrubbery while Trump played golf nearby.
Bradshaw added that a Secret Service agent spotted the rifle and immediately opened fire. The agent fired off four to six rounds, according to a Secret Service official, which caused the suspect to flee. The suspect's belongings are being processed, Bradshaw said.
