US initial jobless claims down by 18,000 to 202,000

Initial jobless claims in the United States for the week ending December 30 came in at 202,000, shrinking by 18,000 compared to the previous week's revised level, the Department of Labor said in its report published on Thursday.

The 4-week moving average was 207,750, down by 4,750 week-on-week.

The insured unemployment rate was reported at 1.2% for the week ending December 23, slightly decreasing by 0.1 percentage point from the previous week. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment was 1,855,000, dropping by 31,000 from the previous week's revised level. The 4-week moving average was 1,867,000, declining by 250 compared to the previous week's revised average.
